If you want to be understood, first learn to understand others. Walking a mile in another person's shoes, seeing life from their perspective, can go a long way toward helping you connect with other people and get along.
How do you feel about yourself when you're with someone? Your feelings will tell you which people are good for you to get close to. But first you need to be able to read those feelings. If you know how you are feeling, you can use that knowledge to figure out a way to act that will be best for you AND for the other people in your life. That will make you easier to get along with, and as a result, more likeable and more likely to be included.
Exchanging feelings with someone can be the best relationship builder. Of course it helps to know what your feelings are (Emotional Self-Awareness), and to know what other people might be in the mood to listen to (Empathy).
If you want people to like you, first you have to like yourself. If you don't feel that great about yourself right now, take heart. You can learn to see the good in you.
